This petite yet elegant temple has a large following of dedicated Lord Vishnu devotees. It was built in 1964 by of JKR (Public Works Department) workers who helped acquire the land and build the structure of the current temple. The temple follows the Panjarathra agamic method of serving Lord Vishnu, and his consort Goddess Mahalaxmi. The temple has a large and powerful Anjeneyar and Garuda at the entrance. They welcome devotees, and protect the vicinity of the temple. The unique reclining position of Lord Vishnu, is an expression of the deity at the Sri Rangam temple, Tamil Nadu. Lord Vishnu is seated on Adishesha, a five headed serpent who is the king of serpents. The chief priest of this temple, Gurukal Ramanuja regularly expounds quotes from the Ramayana and Mahabharatham to temple devotees. Also he involves devotees in temple ceremonies and prayers, and educates them in the importance of devotion and faith. For instance during the spiritual month of Marghazhi, prayers for Goddess Andal were conducted. A beautiful thulasi garland was carried around the temple, along with hundreds of unmarried lady devotees. These unmarried ladies chanted the Vishnu mantra “OM NAMO NARAYANAYA". This created a wonderful vibration that harmonised the emotions of the attending devotees. During other spiritual occasions such as Krishna Jayanti, the chief priest Ramanuja would tell stories about Lord Krishna and his playful antics towards his devotees. Towards midnight, he would then instruct the devotee to chant Lord Krishna’s Mahamantra. After this was done, a fabulous blue icing cake would be served to Lord Krishna as prasadam. The devotees at this temple have pride in their temple as most sacred occasions have an active spiritual participation. This is indicated by the family type affair when spiritual occasions are celebrated in this sacred temple. Many devotees feel blessed as they are involved in the ceremony, and not sidelined by religious ceremonies.

This Vaishnavaite Temple was built during the year 1964 to meet the increasing number of Vaishavaite devotees around the Simpang Air Hitam area. It was planned in 1964 by a group of workers from the nearby West Country estate, JKR quarters area and Prang Besar estate. My investigations revealed one Mr. Arunachalam and Mr. Muniandy were instrumental in the temple building process. Perhaps there may be others which we do not have records. Madam Ramayee a long term resident of West Country estate gave us some useful information regarding the origin of this temple. The JKR workers managed to get this land, lot 851 from the state Government and the workers through the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) got RM 15,000 from the Selangor State Government under the administration of Menteri Besar Dato Hormat Rafie to put up the temple. JKR approved the building plans and the structure in 1967. During 1977 this area was earmarked for major development for institutions of higher learning and the Lembaga Letrik Negara’s training institution staffs took over the administration of the temple. Notable to mention a few names who developed the temple from 1978 are Mr. Maniam from Prang Besar estate, Dr. M.P. Krishnan, from Kajang Klinik, Mr. S. Ramanuja Muniandy and Mr. N. Padmanathan from Lembaga Letrik Negara
The Temple and its Deities
The temple is a Vaishnavite temple following the Panjarathra agamic method of serving Lord Narayana. This panjarathra method of worship was narrated by Lord himself to Brahma for 5 nights, hence the name of Panjarathra. THIS IS THE ONLY TEMPLE IN MALAYSIA WHERE LORD NARAYANA IS IN A RECLINING POSITION ON THE 5 HEADED SERPANT ADTHISHESHA. Lord Renganath has 16 different types of reclining position and in this temple, he take up the Anantha Sayana position. This is described as a yogic position called Yoga Nitra or “Conscious Awareness” that is pretending to be asleep but alert to the happenings in the universe. The 3-foot statue is solid grade one granite sculptured and brought in from Tamil Nadu during the year 1964. Lord Renganath, the father for all Vaishnavaites remains young, evergreen and with an infectious gentle smile that can capture even a non-believer.
